Reading, Writing, and Resources

 

 

 

 

 

 

Build literacy by exposing your child to lots of books. We challenge all parents/caregivers to read 1,000 books to their newborns, infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Document progress and receive a prize after every 100 books!  (Birth - Age 5)

Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Best Sellers Book Club | Be a part of a virtual book club where you make new friends, learn new things, and play games as we discuss best sellers and award nominated books.

Anime & Manga Fans | 3rd - 12th Grade | Grab your Ramens! It's back! Anime & Manga fans join others that share your love of all things Anime. Discuss your favorite books, movies, and tv shows virtually in monthly zoom meetings at 5:30 PM. Monday, 9/21, 10/19, & 11/16.

Do you need a recommendation for your next great read? Join us October 1, November 5, and December 3 to give and receive book suggestions.

Fall into Good Books September 8th through December 21st. Earn a prize after posting five book reviews to the library's online FALL Reading Program Wandoo Reader. This program is open to children, teens, and adults.

BOOKFLIX - Read a book based on a movie. After you've read the book and watched the movie, write reviews for both, then post your reviews to our online Fall Reading program Wandoo Reader for a chance to win a $10 eGift card.

Book BINGO Challenge - Fall into a few good books and have some fun while you're reading. Pickup your Bingo card at the children's reference desk, check out books in the challenge categories following the card to get B I N G O! Then bring in your card and you'll be entered into a raffle to win a prize. Challenge your friends and family and complete the whole card. Happy Reading!

 Creative Writing: Author at Work - Explore aspects of authorship in this creative writing group. Develop not only your writing, but reading, vocabulary, and peer assessment skills. Meeting Dates: 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6, 11/13, 11/20

I'm a Poet and I Know It Poetry Contest (Ages 8+) Submit an original Fall-themed poem. Poetry contestants in 3rd - 12th grade must submit an original poem on the topic of one of these words: TURKEY, THANKSGIVING, GRATEFUL, FAMILY. Three winners will be selected. One from elementary, middle and high school. One entry per participant. Poetry submission maximum length is 100 words. Contest begins Monday, November 2 and the deadline to enter is Monday, November 30.

September 15 - October 15, 2020 

Bookmark Design Contest - Students in grades K-5 are invited to design a bookmark celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Winner will receive a $15 eGift Card. Entry Deadline: Thursday, Otober 15, 2020 @ 5 PM.

Poster Design Contest - Students in grades 6 - 12 are invited to design a poster celebrating Heroes & Heroins of Hispanic Heritage. Winner will receive a $15 eGift Card. Entry Deadline:Thursday, October 15, 2020 @ 5 PM.
