MARCH IS WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

March is Women’s History month, and the Broadview Public Library is sponsoring a workshop entitled: ‘Journaling: A Way to Wellness’. The Workshop will be held on Thursday, March 25, at 7:00 p.m., and will be hosted by Barbara J. Henry, lawyer, teacher, speaker and author of Journaling: Twenty Plus Reasons Why You Should Start Now (River Forest [Illinois], 2008). In the workshop, Ms. Henry will discuss what journaling is; how journaling differs from keeping a diary; the emotional, spiritual, even physical benefits of journaling; specific reasons to keep a journal; and the ‘how-to’ of journal keeping, accompanied by practical demonstrations of the art of journaling. Though the program is designed with women in mind, men are welcome and encouraged to attend. This library-sponsored program is free and open to the public. For more information, stop by the library, or call the library at (708) 345-1325.

Library Gets Gates Grant
The Broadview Public Library District is one of 128 libraries statewide (and one of only two libraries in our immediate area) awarded an Opportunity Online Hardware Grant. The grant, furnished by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is administered by the Illinois State Library, and will allow the Broadview Public Library District to purchase new computers and upgrade older ones. Library Executive Director Carl Caruso submitted the application for the grant in January 2009; the final decision came down in July. The grant will be disbursed over a two-year period. It is hoped that the funding received through this generous grant will result in a net gain of five additional computers for public use, and an upgrade of five existing computers at the library.

New Museum Adventure Pass!
